We focus on PIES....Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, and Spiritual Growth.
We welcome students from 5th grade thru 12th grade. Your parents or relatives don't have to attend our church. We welcome everyone.
Our weekly meetings are on Mondays from 6 to 8pm at Fircrest United Methodist Church (address below). We begin meeting in September and continue through early June.
We usually begin each meeting with an outdoor activity (basketball, volleyball, or croquet, etc.) if the weather is good....or an indoor activity in the huge basement of the church (such as nerf dodge ball).
We always eat and drink sometime during our meetings. Food varies from refreshments to meals..pizza, spaghetti, lasagna, etc.
We enjoy watching MOVIES together and DISCUSS them afterwards. Our unique focus is that schools can't teach spiritual growth but at our Youth Group meeting we can explore that realm of LIFE ON EARTH.
We talk a lot....about GOD, FAITH, SPIRITUAL GROWTH, WHAT'S IMPORTANT IN YOUR LIFE?, WHAT ARE YOUR DREAMS?, HOW CAN WE MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE?, WHAT KIND OF A PARENT SHOULD I BE?, WHAT SORROWS DO WE BEAR?, HOW CAN WE COPE WITH MEAN PEOPLE?, HOW DO WE SURVIVE THROUGH TOUGH TIMES?, HOW CAN I GET TO KNOW GOD AND CHECK HIM OUT?
We take trips each year, on Saturdays or school holidays. Examples include:
- Mt. Rainer - We usually take a September trip to hike beginning at Paradise Lodge, 5400 feet above sea level. Watch a film to orient us then hike Skyline Trail mountain, covered with wild flowers, deer, occasional bear, and fantastic views of Nisqually Glacier and the heavens above. During the winter, we take a January or February trip for snow fun, using sleds and inner tubes.
- Cruise to Seattle - During spring break, we try to take a Cruise from Bremerton to Seattle, on the ferry, and back later in the day. We visit Seattle's waterfront, check out Pike Street Market, ride the monorail to Seattle Center and try to touch the huge water fountain there without getting wet. Good luck with that.
- Indianola Camp on Puget Sound - In late May or June, we spend a weekend at Indianola Methodist Church Camp, located west across Puget Sound from Seattle. It's a fabulous wooded area on beach front property and inland estuaries. On our last visit, we saw eagles and a sea otter walking across land! We also swam, played basketball, softball, volleyball and swung on a huge rope swing in the forest. As we normally take summer off, this experience is probably the highlight of the year's activities.
- Scholarships for camp & activities - Last spring, our youth group hosted a Spaghetti Dinner and then performed a Talent Show that raised full scholarships for the Indianola Camp costs.
Michael Galt is a Tacoma teacher (high school). And yes, he was also young once.
